Whether you’ve been shooting daily or the bow hasn’t been picked up since your last hunt, archery season will be here before you know it, so it’s time to dig in.

Lets start an accountability thread.
Every 7 days I’ll post a new distance for you to shoot your first “cold” shot and then you post it in here.

Trying to mind our diverse group I’ll have two categories.

Traditional (25 yards max)
Compound/crossbow (40 yards max)

Have fun, shoot straight, and don’t suck.

06/11/25 to 06/18/25

Traditional - 13 yards
Compound/crossbow - 24 yards

I have a confession to make. I have only shot 3 practice arrows in the last three years. My shoulders hurt so bad when I’m drawing my bow that I don’t shoot anymore. I force myself to shoot one arrow to try to confirm that my sights haven’t moved. Then I rely on adrenaline to help me draw my bow without screaming during elk season. So far it has worked. I have shot 3 elk over the last 3 years and didn’t notice any pain while drawing on any of them. I have limited my shots to 30 yards or less. I used to practice out to 70 yards so closer shots seemed easier. My insurance deductible is high enough that I don’t want to go to the doctor to figure out what’s going on.

This sounds fun. I’m in. Won’t be able to get my shot in until Saturday, also Saturday next week. Stuck working in Kentucky for 2 weeks.

Last nights shot. I’ve been working on myself to get off the crease….

Finally got a moment to shoot. Hot, muggy and muddy. Put my quiver on and set up just like I am hunting. 24 yards, dialed and pulled a tad to the left. Not sure if it’s the extra weight of the quiver or just me.IMG_2783.jpegIMG_2784.jpegIMG_2786.jpeg

Better today. Moved my quiver all the way forward on the bracket. Helped with the balance. Don’t know why it took me 10 years to figure that out!
Happy Father’s Day y’all!

Went with 36 yards, gap the pins. Obviously my 30 and 40 are hitting a little high. Still a good kill shot.
Stay safe with whatever your task is.
Getting some new VPA Omgas with bleeders today. We’ll see how they fly tonight.IMG_2883.jpeg

Picked 42 yards, slightly quartering to.
Using the new VPA Omega heads with bleeders. These things fly amazing.IMG_2988.jpeg
