I have been trying to draw a super easy to get extra antlerless whitetail tag with no luck for 8 years. One of those years had a 97% success rate and I was one of the 3 percent that didn’t draw. I did get that tag on a second chance drawing one year.
This year I decided to put in for good tags instead of the “easy” to draw tags. I figured that if I’m not going to draw tags I might as well not draw good tags. I drew my first choice extra antlered deer tag. So with my regular tag I can shoot two bucks plus my over the counter elk tag.
My dad is checking his results now. When I logged on to the website I was 19,047 in line to check my results. My dad got on later and was 37,006 in line. I’m 4th generation in Idaho. I’m not used to the tags being so coveted in my state. I guess that’s what happens when you are one of the few states that have as many otc tags as we do. It doesn’t seem like that long ago I could buy discount non resident tags during the season because they had so many leftover. I suspect those days are over.
