Scoring elk and deer

I got a Boone and Crockett scoring book that tells you how to do it and has pages for you to write down measurements so you can score racks. It has chapters for different animals. I scored all the racks and sheds I had and just doing that has helped a lot in field judging animals. I also found that I and most other people over estimate most of the time.

This is a link to downloadable scoring charts you can fill out.

I am fortunate to have a buddy that does about 1000 euros each year - elk/deer/pronghorn - and we like to pick thru what he gets in and make some guesses and then bust out the tape measure.

That has really helped me to get 'hands on' scoring.

If you know a taxidermist, maybe stop in and look around and ask some questions
