Thanks. The burn is only two years old, but there was plenty of regrowth and plenty of elk sign. You could tell they were coming in there to feed everyday. I saw elk there everyday; even as I was packing meat out.- Mark.N

Success! One of the coolest experiences of my life. There must have been a second rut going on because I was hearing bugles every morning and night. I'm hooked. Hopefully I'll get a chance to hunt this area again, but with a bow. Beautiful scenery.- Mark.N

Thanks for the advice. I did find an outfitter that works in the area that will assist with getting meat out. I don't want to go in deep just for the sake of doing it. I think you are totally right. I assume I won't reliably know what they are feeding on until I get boots on the ground in October. My understanding is the snow/temperature/moisture will dictate the feed. The only caveat I will add is that this unit had a HUGE burn in 2022. Almost half the unit...- Mark.N

I am going on my first elk hunt this fall Oct 19-23. Does anyone have advice on what elevation I should be focusing my hunt on? Unit ranges from 5,800 to 13,100ft.
