Coming back for this same hunt again! My dad was drawn this time. It feels nice to have all the e-scouting already done lol.

Thanks. The burn is only two years old, but there was plenty of regrowth and plenty of elk sign. You could tell they were coming in there to feed everyday. I saw elk there everyday; even as I was packing meat out.

Success! One of the coolest experiences of my life. There must have been a second rut going on because I was hearing bugles every morning and night. I'm hooked. Hopefully I'll get a chance to hunt this area again, but with a bow. Beautiful scenery.

Thanks for the advice. I did find an outfitter that works in the area that will assist with getting meat out. I don't want to go in deep just for the sake of doing it. I talked to a biologist who said there's great feed in this area, and I am able to glass multiple locations, and I'm hoping the...

    Backcountry Mileage

I'm planning my first elk hunt in New Mexico this October, and I was wondering how many miles people typically hike into the wilderness for a backcountry hunt. I am in my early 30s, and in great shape (I train almost everyday). I've scouted what looks to be a great hunting spot about 7 miles in...

Does anyone want to see fish on here?

That is a pig! I do a fair amount of Pike fishing in Minnesota. My largest is 42in. Nicely done.

I think you are totally right. I assume I won't reliably know what they are feeding on until I get boots on the ground in October. My understanding is the snow/temperature/moisture will dictate the feed. The only caveat I will add is that this unit had a HUGE burn in 2022. Almost half the unit...

A September to remember and how I am planning it.

I have the same LE Montana tag. Planning on hunting there from the 15th to the 21st. Good luck!

Thank you for the advice! I have a few options scouted out at different elevations. Hopefully I find elk with plan A!

I am going on my first elk hunt this fall Oct 19-23. Does anyone have advice on what elevation I should be focusing my hunt on? Unit ranges from 5,800 to 13,100ft. I've been doing some e-scouting, and I found what looks to be some great spots at around 11,400ft, but I'm concerned this may be too...
