When Do You Leave for Your Hunt?

Elk seasons are quickly approaching! How soon do you leave for your hunt? Any last-minute things that you need to do before you leave?

I’m lucky enough to live where I hunt so I will be hunting whenever I can get out. Which is usually a lot. But I’m building our house this year. I was hoping to be done by now but other work came up earlier in the year and I broke ground 2 months later than I wanted. Hopefully I will be done in time for November deer season. But elk will be relegated to whenever I can find time to go. Hopefully you guys have more hunting time this year.

Good luck Ribo! I'm leaving in 25 days, although I might try to sneak out for a quick hunt before then if I can.

I'm heading out to the elk woods Friday afternoon for opening day Saturday (North Idaho)! Doing a little long weekend warrioring and hoping to find something in season to fling an arrow at. Wish me well

Report back on what you encounter. I’m also in north Idaho and am curious what the elk will be up to. With it being warm my parents are headed out to sit over some water holes and wallows. Good luck.

Howdy! Where I was at, lots of bugles and interactions in the early mornings but everything living went down as low as they could come 10AM or so with how hot it is. Some bulls were responding to cow calls, others to bull vocalizations

Considering I struck out on every application this year, have soft plans for 2nd rifle in Colorado. Watching the weather very closely.

Leaving for my 2 week solo hunt in 5 days! Still need to get some last items on the food list, but otherwise it'll just be packing it all up in the truck.

Tagged out on Monday morning! Two trips for pack out thanks to friends. God provides

Dannyboy21 Nice bull.

What’s everyone else have for hunts coming up? I missed all of September archery for the first time in 21 years. I have an any weapon season that runs for 5 days at the end of this month but I don’t think I’ll have time to hunt. Then I have late archery and late muzzleloader in December. I should have time to get out for those. I already had 2 deer tags and then I did something stupid and bought a third tag because I’m anticipating having time to hunt in November.

I'll be taking my son out for the 2nd rifle in Colorado. Other than that, it's just a deer tag and a pronghorn tag left for me.

Heading out on Friday for 2nd Rifle. First time I won't be carrying a rifle during an elk rifle season, so the focus is solely on my son and finding him an elk. Should be a great time!!

4 deer tags to fill in our house, one down so far. The wife has an elk B tag but it isn't looking like we will be punching that one out this year! Unless she wants to go freeze in muzzleloader season...
