Hey guys, there are 3 of us heading out to Colorado in the Rangely with OTC tags, 2nd rifle. Any insight on how the area is, grocery stores, restaurants, etc.

Any help you may have will help.

Thanks for the quick reply cohunter. We are just a couple Western PA whitetail hunters giving it a try, going in blind and hoping for the best. And regardless of the outcome I know we will still have a blast!

I’ve also never been there but hopefully you have a good time and update us about how your hunt goes. I’m missing elk season this year and need the updates.

OTC, but we are planning on hunting 21 or 22.

22 had a huge fire this last summer. I'm not sure if you are aware of that or not, but if not, be sure to check it out...

You might want to hunt where the fire was. I was hunting an area near a spot where a large fire had been. I glassed across the canyon to the burned hillside looking at black ground and trees and watching an elk herd wander around. I went there the next day and there was elk sign all over and little shoots of new grass and brush growing. This was about 6 weeks after the fire. I ended up getting into elk somewhere else and didn’t go back but it looked like they had been in there for a while. I was surprised to see them there that soon.

South and East of Rangley in 21. Straddle along the 21GMU line in the northwest corner of 22.

Thanks for the help guys. Just looking for an experience outside of western PA whitetail. Really looking forward to seeing an elk.
