I may head to Florida in February for rutting deer and hogs, but for now it’s trapping and coyote hunting for the next couple of months!

Time to start prepping for the 2025/26 season!

I filled one of my three deer tags. I probably would have passed on this guy two weeks ago when I thought I would have lots of time to hunt in November. But my freezer is pretty empty and I spent 10 days laying on my couch with the new strain of Covid so I’m behind on projects and will probably hunt less in November than I was hoping, so he looked big enough for the first tag. Kind of wonky antlers. Looks like he damaged the one side while it was growing. Hopefully I will get out a day or two for mulies before I switch my focus over to whitetails. Mulie opens tomorrow but the forecast looks like rain which usually equals fog where I hunt so I’m going to try to pick a more favorable weather day.

I’ve got one more tag for deer. It’s a draw tag for an antlered whitetail in a CWD quarantine area. It’s the same area I have hunted all my life but they found CWD there a year or two ago so now it has some special rules. I’m hoping to get out for that tag and am planning on holding out for a big one but oftentimes I see one and decide that it’s big enough so we’ll see how picky I end up being.

Congratulations. That looks like a nice place to hunt. I wish we had hardwood forests here. Sitting in a treestand on a nice fall day bowhunting whitetails over acorns sounds like a good way to spend a day.
