I suppose, I think I'm going to start packing a little break barrel single shot rifle with a light... that would have solved my problem pretty quickly. Better to ask forgiveness than permission
I was able to speak with a Idaho Fish & Game conservation officer last week! My question was whether, under those circumstances, I could legally shoot the bear to protect the meat, even if it was after legal shooting hours.
The officer discussed the situation with two other officers, including...
I think I've hear that to, something about an aggressive black bear actually wants to eat you whereas a Griz just wants to make sure you aren't a threat any more... I don't think I would ever be able to process an elk in two hours. Maybe if I wasn't on my own but processing alone really is a...
Da Bears… this is a long post but there is a lot to cover here.
On the 27th, I arrowed a 6x6 mature bull elk about 2 miles in from an atv trail. Accessibility is moderately difficult but not impossible. Solo hunt, so not a lot of "disturbances" in the woods at this point 4:00PM
After...
Hello All, hope everyone is having a good season and getting some action. It was a long, tough season for me. Early season plans didn't work out as I hoped (elk didn't cooperate with my brilliant plans). Then once the hunting pressure hit they all went into hiding in places I didn't want to go...
My early season report thus far : Two full days in the field, two evenings after work in the field (two different areas).
Found one bull with cows, I could get him to respond to cow calls but the closest I could get to him was 100 yards and never could see him. Followed him and his girls around...
Well, our season up north kicks off on Sunday. I'm heading out Saturday evening to see what kind of shenanigans I can get into. I wish you all the best! Hunt hard, stay safe and take care of your fellow hunters! "We only get so many opening days in our lifetime"
Here are a few pictures. Almost had to change my shorts when it was all said and done (he came into 10 yards / shot him at 30). I didn't get the cool trophy picture since I was on my own, and the sun was trying to bake him. Even drug the old man out to help with the pack out. Great memories for...
Just curious, how many of you have seen or got hands on an 8x8 bull and if so... what did it score? Any pictures? Elkitis is kicking in and I'm dreaming of monsters... I took one in 2023 and am told I likely will never get another. But there is always hope...
I'm 32 and in pretty dang good shape - most days in the elk woods still kick my butt. My dad is in his mid 60's and still gets out there every year, we just don't go as far in (which is fine by me)!
Elk Hunting Plans - 2026
Call me basic but I plan on saving the money and sticking to my home turf again this season (Idaho Panhandle). No out of state tags or applications for me, maybe someday. I've had three years in a row of tagging out and am looking to make it four! I can't get enough of...
Glad I found this thread... Of the three bulls I've taken I have yet to get a clean passthrough. Seems each time the arrow gets hung up on the fletching's... Hopefully the next one will sneak all the way through and give me a monster blood trail.
4 deer tags to fill in our house, one down so far. The wife has an elk B tag but it isn't looking like we will be punching that one out this year! Unless she wants to go freeze in muzzleloader season...
