Why do I suck at Elk Hunting? Seriously, help!

How do you find your spots in wa?
I love Cory's idea of not wasting his time on spots unless they are a mile or more from the nearest road. In western Washington how do you find such spots?- Napoleon54

Washington Winston unit
Does anyone have any experience hunting the Winston (520) unit in WA? The fired in eastern wa have us switching things up at the last minute this year. Any advice or spots that anyone would share for a first time western Washington archery hunter would be greatly appreciated!- Napoleon54
