I have seen the same thing on a couple of units I have hunted previously...well above the target number, but reducing tags. I don\'t quite understand that.
The only tags that increased for my units is for bear. It was pretty easy to get before with no points as a 1st pick. I think I could get it with no points now for a 2nd pick.
I\'m seriously thinking of just hunting for bear from now on. I\'m so tired of struggling with the draw. Too many years of frustration. I like the idea of just putting for the bear tag, and not worrying about it, and not even concerned about the results. Just like it used to be for elk.
Life was so simple before the internet. You bought a tag, and went hunting. Now everything is dissected to the smallest detail. Stuff we never had to do, because it wasn\'t important. We all knew how to hunt.
Pete,
After years of digging through ton\'s of CO stats, I finally reached the same conclusion.
My go to plan each year is Preference Point as my #1 choice for Deer and Elk. Elk OTC tag, and a left over or under subscribed deer tag (If I want to chase deer that year).
It took me many years to figure out how to use my elk points. I burned them last year on an ES Rifle RFW tag. Very high success rate, and the land owners will generally tell you where to start looking (not always true).
Not sure what I\'m going to do with my Deer points. I\'m not a trophy hunter. I may burn them next year on a RFW late season buck tag however.
And I\'m not a speed goat hunter. I only hunt those when taking kids out.
Looks like they added 1 either-sex archery tag to Units 2 and 201 as well as 1 extra for muzzleloader. Maybe that will tilt the odds in my favor for 201. Doubt it but hoping! Then someone would have to tell my wife she has to wait another year for Unit 61!
