This is the 1st time all 3 of my grand boys have killed there limit of teal... :upthumb: :upthumb: Several time they have killed their limit durin\' the regular duck season but this is the 1st time on teal and they are ready to do it again next Sat...  It was a great way to open the 2014-2015 Arknasas duck season... :D :D

Grand boys limit alone...

Three generations of Ol\' Arky\'s family.. Ol\' Arky, my ol\'est son and his ol\'est son...

Hope this post is OK.... :angle: :angle:

When do the geese come in?

Well it just happened to be early Canadian goose season (Sept 1st thur 15th) also this past weekend and a stray flight of 8 or 10 decided to check out our teal decoys... We were all usin\' #6 steel shot and we all decided to pick out just one goose and shoot um... We did and the results was one dead goose...

Here\'s a picture of one of the crew that said he was the one of off the 4 that killed um... The other 3 of us just laughed and said \"yep ya sure did\"...

The regular goose season starts Nov 13th but that\'s durin\' modern gun deer season... Durin\' the regular ducks (goose season is also in at that time also) we are a bit more prepared for um with large steel shot size... :D :D

duck opener in mn was yesterday. I brought out my middle boy, he is 7, for his first duck hunt. hopefully in a couple more years he will be able to swing a shotgun on a duck. for now he will have to just watch. with a 6 duck limit, we went 14 out of 18 before the sun came up and killed the morning flight. I took 5.

Great lookin\' new duck hunter ya got there...

Glad ya opener was good for ya... :upthumb: :upthumb:

Ya do know they do make youth model shotguns... ;) ;) It would surprise ya how good a 7 or 8 year old can handle one with proper trainin\'...

Here\'s my ol\'est and next to ol\'est grandboys from the 2007-2008 youth duck season... They are 13 and 12 now... The ducks are almost as big as they are... They both killed the duck they are holdin\'... We did ligth um on the water in the timber before they shot um...

We have a little less than 2 months (Nov 22nd) til our regular duck season opener... Ya\'ll save a few of um for us... :D :D

phil, I do have a youth model tristar 20 ga auto that I picked up for the boys. my oldest, 8, shot his first turkey with it this spring. but he was pretty shaky with it then. the 7 year old couldn\'t keep it up even with sitting down and on his knee. so next year I plan to have the oldest started with trap. heres the oldest with his turkey

Good deal Gary... Trap is the best way to teach wing shootin\'... Unlike other shootin\', wing shootin\' is about 80% confidence and 20% skill in my opinion... Once ya learn it right ya never forget it... My grandboys have been huntin\', if ya call it that, since they were in dipers... They got to go when the weather was good and we didn\'t make um stay for a long time either... They still need to learn that stayin\' power but they both can shoot ducks as good if not better than I can now... I still got the 80% confidence but the skill level has dropped some due to my age and agility... If ducks are comin\' in the timber I still shoot 90% or better but in the open were I gota move my feet and turn it\'s a lot lower that 90%, closer to 60% or 70%...

Kids do learn fast but ya got to teach um both confidence and skill... By the way confidence is helped along a bit when the duck they are shootin\' at falls even if they ain\'t the reason for the fall... ;)

I hope ya get both ya boys turned on to huntin\' cause it\'ll let ya know were they are durin\' huntin\' season, that bein\' right by ya side... :D :D

excellent quote!

Awesome pictures Gary and Phil!

Gary, is that Ford stuck in the grass in that picture

You guys posting pictures with your kids help my fiances push for having a kid soon. \"You will have a new permanent hunting buddy.\"

I enjoy it even more when one of my kids take a animal than when I take one. All my kids are grown up and gone doing their own thing now. They still come home to hunt when they can. But my grandson turns 1 tomorrow so I will have a new hunting buddy in a few more years. :upthumb:

I enjoy huntin\', not killin\'... Don\'t get me wrong I\'ll still kill critters but my grandkids need to take up my slack now... :upthumb: :upthumb:

I hear ya Arky I could have filled my archery deer tag already but I would rather wait till one of my kids are home to do it. Then we can celebrate together :D

It does sound great to pass on such a great tradition for generations to come.
I hope some day that I am able to do the same
