okay..okay. i miseed a mulie buck in AZ this january. but in AZ, just getting in bowrange is a success for me. hehe.

today was our turkey opener. i unloaded my truck to distant gobbles. LOTS of hens clucks too! the sun was racing up, so i quickly set up. not the best spot, but decent. what a waste of energy. when i was set up, activity died. at 8:00 am..i hear and see 3 toms coming towards me!! they go under one fence and keep on coming. i set up in a shallow \"V\". the birds go on a trail, and they can see across to the other side of the \"V\" and see my decoy. easy! but they hung up at 88 yards..for two hours. they were strutting but not super aggresive. maybe the season isnt in full swing here yet. what i think happend.the racket they were making brought in 3 BIG toms. whoa!! i see them moving in and out of the trees. fully puffed out and strutting..but they also hung up. it was like turkey yelling match for 30-45 mins. i kinda gave up and almost laid down in the blind. my adrenalin dump was wiping me out as it winded down.

i move to the front of the blind to get my call closer to the opening in the hopes of making it sound different. i see in the corner of my eye, at 20 yards..a big blue head running for my decoy. WTF!! i rapidly set up..find chair, sit in chair, pull out arrow..i closed my eyes at this point and loaded up blind. stupid. i look, cock vane up...it is GO TIME! the jake body bumped my decoy and it looks confused..it pffts!! and turns to run..15 yards..i aim for the top of the drumstick and let the grim reaper fly. the arrow looked slo-mo..it felt heavy leaving..it WHACKED that bird..and the bird limped about 15 yards over a hill and laid down. i dive out from under the blind..i didnt even use the door!! i find it DEAD!!

i wanted to wait for a Tom..but bird in the hand..bird in the hand.
BTW, this is \"first blood\" for my Elite Energy 35!!

i cant seem to resist shooting those jakes.

oh, well..super fun. and super tasty. breasted it out, and kept the carcass for a huge caldron of turkey stock..later.

here are some pics. i didnt take much. forgot camera and had to use my phone.

I cant resist shooting jakes either, I just love eating them too much! I haven\'t graduated to trying to kill them with a bow yet. maybe when mn decides to let you get two tags..... great job!

Congrats... I hope to get my first tom with a bow this year. I have arrowed several hens in the fall.
