I\'m looking for advice on elk hunting boots for 2016.

Currently, I have a pair of Cabela\'s Meindls. I have had them now for 4 years, and they are still waterproof and are holding up well.

They do have one issue: I got them very wet and as they dried, the right boot became a little misshapen and my right middle toenail pays the price. I am going to exchange them this weekend and I\'m confident that Cabela\'s will replace them.

But ... even though these boots are great for heavy loads and steep country, I\'m looking for a more \"athletic\" pair of footwear for scouting and day-to-day hunting. I don\'t want anything really \"tall\". Easy on, easy off. Cheap and \"disposable\" or more expensive and geared to last years ... I\'m up for whatever suggestions people have.

John,

I wear a pair of uninsulated under armor hunting boots.
They are super light (2.2 lbs), super comfy, great grip, and more.

The break in period was fast and they are still holding up after two full seasons of scouting, shed hunting, hiking with the family, and of course hunting.

If you are going to cabelas, they usually have some in stock. I\'d try them on.

They are priced middle of the road too. Not too cheap and not too expensive.
I will definitely buy another pair whenever these go out.

edit: I should have mentioned they are not tall either.

As you know, Im in the same boat.
I think Im leaning toward an all leather boot this time around.

After the Holidays, come on down and lets go check out some boots

I run Lowa Renegades. Love them.

Next? I like the even lighter solomans. 4D Gtx or something.

I have trouble finding boots that fit good due to me trying to stop an ATV from rolling over on me with my right foot. The end result was a broken ankle and a right foot that has never been the same for some reason.

I wear Perfekt Hikers for elk hunting myself but I buy cheap Hikers from wal mart for scouting and everyday use. They actually seem to fit well and serve their purpose for me but they are not waterproof. I do this simply because I am cheap but I would love to upgrade to a mid priced hiker like a Keen to see if I could get a little more bang for my buck.

I\'ve used a few over the years but for the last 3 years, my Zamberlan Guide 960 all leather boots have been amazing. I just updated the insole with the merino wool super feet.

I have the luxury of trying a ton of boots. Lightweight, the best I\'ve tried have been Asolo.

I did some research and found these boots.
And they just arrived!

They are LaCrosse Adamas 8\"
I got them thru Field Supply and saved some $$$!

Most places they are sold out.

Time to break them in!

How do they fit, Brad?

I\'m always worried about buying footwear online ... preferring to try a pair on. I\'ve been burned before.

Heck, I was just outside with my last pair of \"online boots\" ... a pair of insulated Cordura boots from Cabela\'s ... a little big, but the price was right. Fine for barn work, scooping snow, etc., but I don\'t like covering a LOT of ground in them. I walked 9 miles in November in them and they did alright, but I would\'ve rather been in other boots.

I don\'t have a fear of shopping online for boots. Most of the time you can request a return slip with your order. In 2013 I ordered 4 or 5 different pairs and kept the ones I liked.

Backcountry.com has some good sales and the staff there are excellent to work with.

I have a pair of Solomon\'s like noted above. However in my experiences, I prefer to use them in dry conditions. I would not rely on them for a 5 or 7 day hunt with heavy rain in the forecast. The mesh tends to absorb a lot of water which makes the boot heavy.

I, like Brad, prefere a full leather boot for an good all around boot. OTCWill has a pair of that I hear good things about. I think they are the Lowa Tech Light Hunter.

I would also give these a look.

i use asolo sassalongs with a superfeet insole. i like them but have no others to compare them to. got them at sierra trading post and saved some dollars.

9 hours in my new boots.
I walked up and down stairs, across icy parking lots, thru snow, etc.
All is good.

My feet werent as sweaty as they usually are = good thing
No blisters or hot spots = good thing
The crease area at the base of the laces is going to take a couple days to break in = Hmmmmmm Im OK with that [will report back]
Comfortable = good thing

Time for some SnoSeal now

I\'ve had several pair of Lacrosse hunting boots but never the pair you bought. The ones I had wear very comfortable to wear, break in period was quick and they held up to a lot of elements back east.
