where we hunted today on a 3000 acre area. we saw mallards from daylight til we limited out. only one other duck an didnt see many, but the mallards were thick. bought my son a new shotgun yest for this hunt an it jams so bad i cant even pull the bolt open. im so mad i could spit nails, but the hunt was awesome. an my son shot extremely well, with my shotgun, for a newbie.

Ya know ya got my blood pressure up don\'t ya... :downthumb: :downthumb: We need water where we hunt but we have a lota ducks in the area right now needin\' a place to call home for the winter....

it was a blast arky, you should come hunt with me sometime. i will do the work. but we have to walk in

what kind of shotgun did you get? my sbe2 always jammed on me, so I sold it and went back to my tired old 1100..... serves me right for buying such an expensive shotgun.

i went the other direction. my son is hit an miss with any kind of hunting so i bought him a cheap h r excel shotgun. figured he would use it 2-3 times a year an didnt need an expensive one. but also figured it would be at least somewhat reliable for a few years. as far as your 1100, it was the best shotgun ever made. i had one for quail hunting an fired thousands of rounds thru it without a hickup. bought an 1187 an never liked it.

I wish I could still walk any distance without huffin\' an puffin\'... If I could I\'d invite ya to hunt with us in the woods... :D :D But I can\'t and am limited to what, when and where I can go :downthumb: :downthumb: or I\'d really consider ya invite... :D :D

Keep on shootin\' um and havin\' fun... :upthumb: :upthumb:

The SBE2 is the only shotgun I know that ya gota buy a replacement recoil spring assembly for the gun to function properly... Ya would think a $1700 shotgun would work properly out a the box... :( :(

As for the 1100 I owned one that was stolen and that was back in the 70\'s... It was a great duck gun... I replaced it with a 870 Wing Master (great gun also) and shot it until a few years back (2009)... It got to much for me to handle weight wise and recoil wise... It\'s in the gun safe now and was replaced with a Beretta Extrema II (semi auto) after much deliberation and testin\'... The Beretta was not quite as heavy and it has very littl\' recoil even with 3 1/2\" shells which I don\'t shoot and points just like my ol\' 1100 and 870... I\'ve had it for enough time now and shot enough shells through it to say it\'s a solid and reliable firearm... NEVER failed to shoot (knock on wood)  and NEVER failed to function even with ice on it... I\'m the only person in our group that uses a Beretta... Almost everyone uses some sore of Benelli semi auto and they are amazed when my \"new\" gun functions and their\'s doesn\'t... I\'ve gone back to the 50\'s in what loads I shoot for ducks in the timber... I shot 2 3/4\" 6\'s when we could shoot lead and I shoot 2 3/4\" 6\'s in steel now... I do shoot some 3\" steel 4\'s along with the 2 3/4\" 6\'s but I\'ve found speed and more shot at close range do just as good as the larger shot... I figure if I was to ever shoot ducks at ranges above 25 to 30 yards I might have to change my choke and shot size... Did I mention I used a Skeet 1 choke all the time in the timber and I/C if and when I go to open areas...

OK I\'m through chasin\' that rabbit...

a timber hunt for mallards is on my to do list, someday i will get around to it. mallards pedaling thru the timber has to be a awesome sight.
i shoot a stoeger, benelli owns them, an it shoots ok. had a few ftf but no jams. doesnt like ice. an i shoot an ic with 3 inch 3s. works great on mallards

Let me talk to my ol\'est son and see if he would mind ya comin\' to hunt with us and the boys... Never know till I ask but if it was me and I could do it ya would be welcome... Are you back in Colorado or Missouri???

Most all the folks that duck hunt with me shoot 3\" or 3 1/2\" #3\'s... They kill duck and like um but when they run out a shells guess who they come to for a extra or 2... :D :D

i appreciate that arky but not fishing for an invite. i just meant someday i wanna come down an hunt the timber, either public hunting or a guide. its way different that what we do here. dont talk to your son. i appreciate the thought, but i not necessary. im back in mo down by springfield, thats why if you ever wanna hunt mo ducks let me know. i will do all the work. might even be able to come up with a boat next year to ride in if i have some notice. would love just to get together.

Scott, let me know if you ever need a duck killing buddy

After your old hometown sheriff almost killed me, I need something to restore my faith in Missouri ;)

LOL.... Not funny that you almost got shot. I liked your comment Dan.

haha no worries Terry, it was definitely an interesting time!

Scott, I wrote the giant story in my journal... your old sheriffs almost turned me into a pin cushion with an AR 15 hahah

I bought a tristar semi auto 20 ga youth model for my boys. 4 turkeys so far without a problem!

My ol\'est grandson (13) shoots a tristar semi auto 20 ga youth model, the middle grandson (12) shoots his mother\'s 1100 20 ga youth model and the next un (12) shoots a 20 ga youth model mossberg pump... If ya ask um they all say they are better shoots than their Paw...    They all get their limit every time they go and we are in the ducks then me and their dads kill ours... That\'s the best way for um to learn... Of course if they burn all 3 of their shells we don\'t mind killin\' a few of the ones they let get away...  They always call them shots as \"luck\"...

It is fun to be able to hunt with grandkids.... They know more than we do anyway... :D :D

yep, I am waiting for those, know it all, teen years to come.... my oldest is 9, so I have a couple years yet :D
