I have an opportunity to hunt a private ranch in CO GMU 79 during 4th rifle. They claim there\'s lots of elk left roaming around then. Fact or fiction? And what is the weather usually like then? Not afraid of snow or cold, just not excited about driving x-country that time of year.

Michael, a lot just depends on the weather and the location of the property. Chances are, the elk will be at or in route to their winter range. If this place is in their winter range, it could be a gold mine. But if it\'s located in the higher country, there is a good chance the elk will have moved out by then.

If you know where the ranch is at, check out this mapping system. It\'ll show you the winter and summer ranges along with the migration routes.

Yep. All weather dependent.
Want snow before the season and then cold temps during season.

The 4th season is unique.
It starts on a Wednesday and only 5 days long.
Pretty much the last Shebang for elk hunting for the year.
It\'s low key, fun hunt. Lots of Residents pick up that tag as a leftover.

I think if you ask the landowner if the elk migrate thru or on the property you should do fine.
