Advice for a flatland whitetail junkie that is going on his first elk hunt?

I'm not hugely experienced but I hear all the time from good hunters, "Do NOT over call". That, and look for places that most hunters won't want to go. Most likely that's where they'll be.

Drink lot's of water. Don't get discouraged it's big country. Stay on the move till you find them. Not sure where your going but where i hunt it's a mix of aspens, open medows and dark timber. I really focus on the timber. Good luck I'm a huge deer hunter but would give up all season to chase elk for 2 weeks every year.

As another WT hunter who recently started elk hunting, my biggest mistake was hunting where elk used to be instead of staying on move until I found where they are at now.
