I know many of you use Mountain House meals while elk hunting, some because you pack in and others because of how quick and easy they are. For those that just eat them because of how quick you can make them, what are some alternatives that could be used and made just as quickly? Based on Mountain House\'s website, you add warm water to the meal and wait 9 minutes and it\'s done. So let\'s use that as the time-frame.
I\'ll start with one here that some of you may have heard me mention before: Carnitas burritos. We buy pre-made carnitas from Costco that come frozen and only require heating. These thing taste fantastic and we eat them for dinner even at home. For our meal in camp, we boiled water and stuck the package of carnitas in the water to heat it. At the same time, we put in a \'Boil A Bag\' of rice that takes 9 minutes to cook. If you wanted to, you can use another burner to heat a can of beans. Throw it all in a tortilla and you are set! And the leftover carnitas can be used for sandwiches as well :upthumb:
I\'ve never tasted a Mountain House, but I can tell you that these burritos are comparable with even Chipotle, and they taste even better after a long day in the woods! The only downside is that you need to keep the Carnitas in a cooler before making them, so this probably wouldn\'t work for the folks packing camp in.
Other ideas?
