It\'s known that speed goats can offer some long range shooting.
What is your distance limit with your weapon of choice?

I stalked in on many of bucks last year. I kept getting withing 60-70 yards. However my max is 50 with a bow. So no dice

My max is out there quite a ways with the rifle, and I\'m practicing so I can make it even farther. Let\'s just say my rifle and bullet choice are more capable than I am at this point though!

Let me expand on my answer a little bit...long range shooting has become one of those topics that fits in right with religion and politics. It is very polarizing, and rightfully so. To shoot an animal ethically at a longer range, regardless or weapon, requires a ton of practice on top of money spent in a system that is accurate enough to do so. To top it off, \"ethically\" means different things to different people, so there is no true definition of how far someone should be able to shoot. It isn\'t as simple as x+y=z, it is way more complicated. Add in differing environmental conditions and it complicates things even more.

The increase in popularity of long range hunting has added even more to the polarization of the subject. Equipment is marketed through TV shows making it seem like if someone buys this $5,000 shooting system, they can just show up and shoot animals at extreme range. The majority of hunters would know this isn\'t true, but there are still stories out there of people doing exactly this.

Personally, I have worked on extending my range for quite a few years because of antelope hunting. Where I hunt them, it is very difficult to get close because there is very little terrain that isn\'t flat. The neat thing I can say about working on extending my range is that I have learned A TON about rifles, bullets, ballistics, and optics. I used to go sight my gun in each year before hunting and I had \'minute of pie plate\' accuracy. I can now shoot 1\" groups at 300 yards, whereas I couldn\'t even come close to that at 100 yards prior to this experience. It has made me a more knowledgeable and better shooter than I ever was before. And although I might be more accurate at a chosen long range distance than someone else is at 100 yards (like I used to be), someone might still disagree with my decision to shoot at that distance. And that is just fine because everyone has their own definition of ethics. But it\'s also why I will keep my max range to myself ;)

I will say that shooting TARGETS out at long range and past 1,000 yards is a blast though, and is something that everyone should try at some point :upthumb:

I wish we could write stuff under our name. I would hack Derek\'s account and call him the sniperMod

I have never hunted antelope.
But I know its alot of fun!

If I use a rifle I will use my .243 and reach out and touch one.
My longest kill with that rifle is 610yds [ranged] on a coyote

If I use a bow, my furthest will be 70yds

My furthest shots on lopes were 68 and 77 yards. Both were in the 10 ring. I don\'t think I\'d stretch it much further than 80 or so. Where I hunt (all spot/stalk), you can take all the pins under 50 right off your bow. You won\'t be using them.

The lopes in this picture are in absolutely perfect position for the terrain I hunt and I am still 200 yards away. Spot n stalk lopes are SOO much fun but its as challenging as anything I\'ve done and it definitely involves long range accuracy. If you haven\'t done it, DO IT! WY lopes are one of the most abundant and accessible big game out there. We usually put in 10-15 stalks a day. Non-stop action :upthumb:

i think i own a great \'lope rifle.

i have a sub MOA weatherby .257 magnum. sure a box of ammo cost $100..but if i could find a cool hunt, i\'m there.

i really want to eat one of those things. do they taste \"goaty\"?

I agree, they taste great in the area I have taken them. Just make sure you take care of the meat and you should be good :upthumb:
