You have this bull ranged at 18 yards with a bow, 67 yards with a muzzleloader, and 262 yards with a rifle. Are you shooting? If so, where are you aiming? Feel free to edit the picture to show where you would aim by saving the image to your computer and opening it up with Microsoft Paint.

Bow- Yep

I don't hunt with firearms.  20 yards and in frontals are a green light.  I would expect this elk dead in seconds if I do my job and hit on the red

I'm shooting with all 3. However I would aiming half way between montanaekl31 spot and the bottom of the brisket. That red spot seems high to me.

I shot a whitetail buck last year in the same position at 175 yards... He died quickly...

I can't speak to the muzzleloader, but yes and yes with the other two weapons. I think it is a bit high as well, but if that dot drops 2"- 4", I'll play.

I can only speak for a bow as I haven?t shot rifles much in the past several years, at least not at any distance approaching 300 yards. I would go a couple inches lower than the red dot with my bow.

I'm shooting. My spot is about is about 5-6" lower than the red dot posted above

This 'quartering to' is a very good way to only hit one lung. Knowing that, Ill try to hit the main stuff in front of the lungs

To each his own, but the only way you can mess up a frontal on elk is to hit too low and glance off the brisket. Notice I am mid body, above the knuckles of the shoulder. I love frontal on elk (not deer).

This frontal wasnt too low - and its 5-6" below that red dot on the above pic

Agree totally. That's awesome thanks for sharing.  We are in the same ballpark for sure. It's a bigger window than most people think, on elk anyway.

Do any of these frontal shots hit the spine in any way?
I shoot mechanicals too and I usually find the arrows in the ham.  I am usually 6 inches below the spine

I just always wondered with the frontal. Because if it's a straight on shot I'd imagine the arrow getting in deep enough to hit the spine as it runs up the neck. Obviously it's different with slight angles.

They seem like very effective shots!

For archery, I think the height for the dot is good, but should be  toward his left a few inches. For rifle or muzzleloader it is still a good shot.

I would wait until it turns. Too small of a target and too many variables for me. My only frontal shot on an elk was my last, ended up tracking it for a long time. 6 hours later I finally got it down but it didn?t feel like a good ethical shot.

Obviously, others are comfortable and are confident with that shot but it isn?t for me.

I haven't shot an elk, but I've killed 2 mule deer bucks with that exact shot. Both of them dropped dead immediately and didn't move again. My profile picture is of my last buck that I shot as he came directly towards me.
