arky

Believe it or I haven\'t even gone yet.... :downthumb: :downthumb:

We don\'t have any water where we normally hunt yet and it looks like we might not get it... All the rain has gone too far north and south of us.. None has hit us for a while now... My oldest son has been 3 times tryin\' to fine some ducks in different areas and finally found some in a place I might be able to get to... We\'ll see the day after Christmas since Tuesday is the last day of the 2nd part of out duck season and it reopens the day after Christmas..

The 3 days my oldest son went there was 4 of um and they killed 4 wood ducks one day, 3 mallards and a wood duck the 2nd day and 7 mallards and a wood duck yesterday... He had to wook this week but will be off until Jan 5th when they get off for Christmas and New Years...

To answer ya question I hope the duck killin\' begans Dec 26th and doesn\'t stop till the end of season which is Jan 25th 2015... :upthumb: :upthumb:

We have a good amount of mallards but so far most are on private land since they have water and the public land we hut doesn\'t have much.... Still likes about 2 ft before we have water to hunt where we hunt.. :downthumb: :downthumb:

Arky, Is Bayou Meto that low? Are you short on rain or is some of it farmers flooding the private rice fields for duck season and pulling water from the public? I hope ya\'ll get sum dis weekin. Good luck.

Terry, I haven\'t been to Bayou Meto WMA this year but accordin\' to the AGFC the gauge level\'s show that it\'s 2.1\' low on Upper Vallier area and 1.1\" low in Lower Vallier and Government Cypress areas...

We had plenty of rain all year up to Oct and Nov which is when the AGFC starts floodin\' Bayou Meto WMA... And yes, folks do use Bayou Meto (not the WMA water but from the bayou itself) to flood private land... Private landowners also use the Double Ditch before it get to the WMA to flood there areas... Bayou Meto itself and the ditch that is commenly call Double Ditch is really a ditch off of Salt Bayou which is also use by private land owners to flood areas... These are where the majority of water comes from to flood the WMA... So yes some water is diverted to private land...

Right now accordin\' to my ol\'est son there is some water on the lower end that is holdin\' ducks but it\'s holdin\' a bunch a hunters too... He told me yesterday that if ya want to hunt there ya got to bring your own tree... :downthumb: :downthumb: His meanin\' there is hunters are just to close to each other ya can\'t work duck into the timber without folks shootin\' the duck ya have workin\' on the swing past them above the trees...

It\'s just somethin\' ya have to live with durin\' low water years....

We normally hunt the northern parts of Upper Vallier but there just isn\'t hardly any water in the woods except the bayou\'s and low drains themself...

We need a good all day and night steady rain or a good quick 4\" rain on the watershed of the area to finish floodin\' the WMA... The weather forecast don\'t look good for either for the next 2 weeks... I guess we\'ll see what we can do huntin\' with the crowds and keep prayin\' for rain...

Ya\'ll could push some of those storms ya\'ll are gettin\' down on us if ya want to... We would accept it with open arms...
