Does anyone know of an online calculator to figure out KE and other "important" things that people care about. One place I have found very helpful for me online is called www.huntersfriend.comthey have tons of reviews on all sorts of archery equipment. It is one of my first places to check when I'm thinking about switching something in my set-up.

After listening to the recent Gritty podcast I have been contemplating increasing my arrow weight, FOC, and ditching the rage BH's ive been using on whitetails. I used the Goldtip site that has a FOC calc and KE calc.

Last year I was chucking a 470 total weight arrow 275 FPS and 8% F.O.C. it was tipped with a Rage 1.5 cut. I think it?s called a Rage ss.  Pass throughs on both elk I shot. And the 6 pt bull I shot the Rage went through the offside scapula.
Same shots on elk with the same bow except arrows around in the 420grain range, 280fps, 10% foc over the years and using a fixed Montec and Striker. Never a pass through.  Once I even shot a bull perfect behind the shoulder with a Montec at 7 yards, 405 total arrow weight, 15% foc, 300 FPS. Arrow didn?t even get through offside rib cage.

Long story short, foc in my experience, I believe is highly overrated. Ther s gonna be guys who feel different. Arrow weight and momentum is the key. If you plan on shooting a Rage, get your arrow weight above 450, even better if your around 500.
and use the 1.5inch cut.  My favorite bh right now.
