Backcountry and avoiding high sodium meals

For those of you who partake in backcountry hunting, how can you get mother nature to call when the vast majority of "lightweight" backcountry food is loaded with sodium?

I've noticed over the years (especially since I hit 30) that salt makes me feel extremely bloated and backs me up. I've searched and searched and cannot find any meals that are packable that offer a good nutritional/monetary value except for freeze dried meals i.e. Mountain House... Problem with these for me is they are LOADED with sodium! After a day in the backcountry and eating dried foods, it backs me up and I cannot get mother nature to call for days and days. Due to this I get extremely bloated, crampy and cannot hunt as hard. I avoid salt like the plague at home but find it almost inevitable to get away from when my house and kitchen is on my back. Any of you have any remedies to help with this if you experience the same problem?

Haven't had that problem in the woods but I know boiling a couple lemon wedges in water for ten minutes or so and making a tea can help reduce water retention. Might help ya out, it's like a natural cleanser.  Good luck

make your own dehydrated food. might be a little late now but I can take my wifes lasagna which IMO is way better than any other. I weigh it and then dehydrate it re weigh it and put it in a food saver. write the amount of weight on the bag. to rehydrate i get enough water to return weight back to normal then cook it like a mountain house. I have found I usually add a bit more water than exact weight. you can do this with alot of meals you have at home and you don't get loaded with sodium. tuna packets aren't too bad or chicken in those pouches but you can essentiallly make your own the company's add alot of salt to help preserve if you vacuum pack shortly before your trip i've never had a problem.

Metamucil may be a good option. Buddy of mine takes some every day of the year just to Mother Nature calling on him. It's in a powder and could be carried in a ziplock. God Luck.
