Hi folks, my first post. I'm looking forward to learning from the members on this board.
I am going to be hunting unit 77 for second rifle season.
I have a great pack with a water system but it's black tactical, would this work on an elk hunt. We are doing a drop camp. Thanks for any advise.

hey welcome you will get as many suggestions here on packs as you will want lol two things to look at will it serve the purposes you need it for, and is it comfortable all day?

Will you be packing meat, or is this just a day pack kinda deal?

First off, Welcome! Most important is what cowboy said. The black tactical isn't a big deal. Some guys on here hunt in some solid color clothing. We had a thread about camo and if it works. Everyone seemed to agree you just need to play the wind, and have something breaking up your outline. However,Camo looks cool!:)

Welcome to the forum.
Most tactical packs that I've seen or owned don't have the frame, internal or external, to carry the weight of a load. I know there are a few out the, but you'll pay as much for them as a good hunting pack. At last count I have 5 hunting packs and 3 tactical type packs. Each one has a purpose. Just picked up and Eberlestock Team Elk. So far it is my go to pack.
Make sure it's adjustable and fits your frame. One size does not fit all!

biggest question is will it haul an elk? do you need a camo backpack to hunt elk? heck no. if i was closing in on an elk i would drop my pack anyway. you need to make sure that it can handle the weight of packing out meat. if it can do that then you are good to go. it is all personal preference and comfort. i have packed meat in some really crappy packs and it is worth the investment into one that is designed to carry loads. good luck

If it is for just day hunting it would befine, just plan to go back for the pack frame. I have used solid colors on packs with no problems , Good luck
