Base Layer

Currently am running with Sitka lightweight for my base layer and it has treated me extremely well! However, with the number of days that I spend hunting continuously I like to have multiple sets of base layers to change out of once every 2-3 days. Looking for recommendations on more affordable options that are still camo patterned and perform well.

My kuiu merinos were terrible.... pathetic really. Probably the only piece of their entire lineup that I wasn't totally impressed with.

Minus33, Core4 & icebreaker all make merinos for a little less than first lite and as near as I can tell, everybit as good. First lite is really good, but has the premium price tag to show for it.

I have a black ovis merino long sleeve shirt that worked great on a 3 day scouting trip. No stink after 20 miles and 9k+ feet in elevation gained. I was shocked. Sure it was a little itchy before first wash, not as nice as my FL merino briefs but it worked great. I'd buy more of that for the price (got it on camofire). After the first wash it got softer to me, but still not quite as nice as FL if you are picky.

I use Core4 merino and love it. I have an extra set and alternate while the other set airs out. I will only use merino wool.

The first lite 1/4 zip top is great. It's light, comfortable, and does what it is supposed to. Kept the stink out. It is a bit pricy, if it were a bit cheaper id have multiples of it. Couldn't be happier with it.

I use either Smartwool mid weight or UA base 2.0, 3.0 or 4.0 depending on how cold and windy it's going to be... But I'm not active at all setting in my stand or next to a tree...

My cousin brought me some ultra light base layers from the military. They fit well, don't sag in the crotch or butt and they feel like silk. I barely notice. But they keep my scent down wick moisture very well and can wear 3-4 days of heavy hunting.

I would look into merino options they seem to work best for what your asking. First lite and Kuiu make great merino options as i prefer the merino blends they offer, but there are plenty of other companies that offer merino wool options. Synthetics have their place but it your really looking for scent control over longer periods of time merino is hard to beat.

I currently use the Kuiu Merino wool baselayers and I have had great success with them from the lightweight top & bottom to the late season top and bottom.  I am allergic to almost all wool, but I can wear Kuiu Merino wool all day and I have never had any issues.  They wick the moisture very well and keep me cool on the hot days and warm on the cold days that I encounter throughout the archery and rifle seasons here in Montana.

I wasn't sure I wanted to drop the coin on the base layers for first lite (I just bought the outer) so I bought the black Ovis brand long sleeve and leggings. Really impressed so far

First Lite Moreno wool is the best thing out there. I have been wearing the same chama tops for 5 years now.  Last year I hunted about 90 days, other wise I am out 30-90 days a year. I don't even buy camping gear anymore, I just use my hunting gear so my First Lite gear gets used quite a bit.
