Bear Bags

I don\'t like bears in camp ... but I really don\'t think there is a great way to guard against it. I mean, after watching this video, I\'m not sure a bear bag is all that helpful:

So, how do you protect your stuff from bears when you aren\'t around?

I\'d like to get some bear-proof panniers, but -- holy smokes -- the price!

John, all my food goes in a dry bag, and I hoist it up into a tree with a piece of paracord.

I always pee around that tree in the morning. I do the same when I hang elk quarters on a tree. Bears always get the gutpile (carcass), but leave the quarters alone.

Swede will tell you it makes no difference peeing around your stuff (and he is an expert when it comes to peeing on bears)...but it\'s worked for over 15 years on many elk kills...so I\'m stickin\' with it!

I\'m just talking black bears here...I don\'t hunt grizzly country

I\'m just saying that hanging a bear bag is a PITA and, I think, of limited value. If a bear wants something, it\'s going to get it ... they\'re like mice that way.

I agree it\'s a pain, but a necessary precaution IMHO.

If one ever does get my food...I will be seeking revenge!
