Beetle kill areas

I have hunted in an area that has some pine beetle kill. The area has most trees standing but soon will be a nightmare to navigate when they all come down.

How does the beetle kill effect elk and how can that be used in hunting? I would also like to see a map of the effected areas in Colorado. Does anyone know where a person might view a map of kill areas?

Here is a good picture from 2010...the areas shouldn\'t have changed much since then:

I have not hunted the affected areas, but from what I have heard some things have changed quite a bit. With all of the pine needles coming off of the trees, vegetation can now grow much more in areas they couldn\'t previously. That allows for some of the feeding areas to change for sure. Brad (cnelk) might be able to throw some information in as well as I think some of the areas he hunts might be affected...Brad?
