I bought a brand new big Agnes fly creek ul3 thinking was going to hunt with a buddy but he said not backpacking. So do u guys think I need to sell it and get the fly creek ul2 to save some weight the ul2 is 2lbs 5oz and the ul3 is 3lbs 8oz. What do u think?

19 oz isn\'t a lot of extra weight when you consider the extra room you will have. If it was me, I\'d keep it. About the time you sell it, a buddy will decide to join you & you will be back to shopping. ;)

FYI: Rei currently has the ul2 on sale thru Monday.

I do my backpacking with the ul2. I am woman and have an xs women\'s pack because of my <16 inch torso, so I am more volume conscious than weight conscious due to my cu inches limitations. However, I personally, I would never want to carry extra weight, esp for my back country hunt when I carry more stuff than when doing simple backpacking. If I had to do it over, I would opt for the copper spur for easier exit and entry because of side entry.

Try the UL3 out in the backyard & then decide. Plus, a buddy may prefer his own tent. If you can live with the extra weight, keep the UL3.

BA tents are not cheap. However, BA just repaired my base camp BA tent for $15 plus shipping which is a bargain compared to buying a new one. Great company.

Good luck with your decision.

well i decided to set up my tent after i got back from a after hour call. i was setting it up in the family room and my wife comes in looks at me and says what are u doing. i told her I\'m camping tonight wanna join me. so i set it up lay in it told her to come in lay down so i can see how much room is in here and she says what are u really doing. so i tell her i can\'t decide if i should keep this one or get the two man tent and she says whats this a one man and i say it the ul3 person she laughs and says right. So after i explain everything to her if i should get the ul2 or keep the ul3 she told me that she wants to go backpacking too, so it looks like I\'m keeping the ul3 and plus i think i like the extra room in it for me if I\'m going solo. I will just have to deal with the extra pound.

If you play your cards right, you wont have to carry that extra pound.
Or even the tent.... :)

haha..i\'m approaching this from the other side.

i have a Fly Creek UL1. it is pretty tight...i fit fine, and i think i can even get my pack in there with me, if the sky dumps. i have considered trading it off of the UL2. there is no denying the awesomeness of extra room.

why? when my brother and i hike in together, we share his Copper mountain 2. it is an awesome tent for two simply becasue of the the doors on each side. it isnt that cramped at all for us. in a huge rain storm, i propped my head on my pack and kept everything dry. we split the 4 lbs at 2 pounds each.

the best thing about the 1-man..it is easy to pack. i bet i could drop it into my spotting scope pocket.
