I didn\'t take my boonie hat to the mountains but I wished I would have. Mine old one is cotton so I thought I would look for one in a different material for next year. I found this one from Drake Waterfowl, <!-- m --><a class=\"postlink\" href=\"http://www.drakewaterfowl.com\" onclick=\"window.open(this.href);return false;\">http://www.drakewaterfowl.com</a><!-- m -->. It\'s $20 and is supposed to be waterproof. I\'ll try it out this fall chasing WTs. Thought it was a decent hat and just wanted to share in case anybody else was looking for a waterproof boonie.

Let us know how waterproof it is and if it isn\'t too hot on the head. I haven\'t ordered one yet but that isn\'t a bad price and I will if it works ok for you.

Put it on, and arm your wife with a spray bottle of water. She\'ll love it, and you get to test the hat.

I\'ve got a Gore-Tex boonie ... don\'t wear it much because it\'s too hot for everyday use. That said, it is nice when the rain starts coming down. Mine is from Cabelas.

Overall, though, I don\'t like being out in the rain no matter what I have on. And if it\'s not raining, I don\'t like having waterproof stuff on -- even the \"breathable\" stuff is hot.

I have a similar hat made by Tilly. It\'s some sort of oil cloth, and keeps me pretty dry. I just use it for fly fishing.

Wore it in the rain this weekend. Its waterproof. Temp was 60-65 and it wasn\'t hot. It has a nylon lining like a Stetson. I was pretty happy with it, water rolled off of it so it didn\'t get heavy. Not bad for 20 bucks.

Here\'s my boonie version with magnifier for fly fishing. Some sort of heavy material that has kept me dry so far.
