What kind of boots do you wear elk hunting?

I am torn on what I want out of my elk boots, but I am thinking:

- lightweight
- water resistance
- uninsulated

I\'ve been looking at these from cabelas because I was born and raised on cabelas products (and I own stock in them :upthumb: )

Am I way off? Or will these suite me?

I have some awesome 800 grain cabelas boots, I just think they are too hot and heavy for a trip like this.

Thoughts?

Dan

Here is what I wear for archery elk.

I love them, lightweight, waterproof, and tough

I wore a pair of Danner boots for years but I don\'t like the way the newer ones fit so had to find somethin different. I like a 200-400 thinsilate boot. I find my feet feel drier than in the uninsulated ones.

Dan, I think those would work good. Lots of good reviews too. The biggest thing with boots is to try to find some that fit well, so if there is any chance to try them on ahead of time, I would suggest that. If not, Cabelas is always good about exchanges and refunds so you have that going for you.

I have had good luck with my keen hiking boots. they have held up to the last 2 years of hunting. I like the light weight for when I am dog tired and can barely pick up my feet.

Seems like there are a lot of different options and everyone has there own preference.

Thanks for all of the recommendations.

I do like your idea about trying them on first Derek.
I may have to run off to cabelas real quick to try on a few different pairs!!!!

Here\'s a quick review on the Under Armour brow time boots I bought.
They fit and feel good in all types of terrain.
The lug pattern was vary good even in the mud.
Good waterproofing, never got wet feet.
Now for the bad. When you walk they both make a creeking sound when you walk.
If you want a good pair of hiking boots I would recommend them. As a hunting boot no.

I have two pair of Danner Pronghorns, love these boots. I tried a pair of rockys they didn\'t last one season. Bought a pair of Danners and they know have 4 hard years on them and still going. Two years ago I bought some un-insulated Danners for archery could not be happier.

A little warning for those thinking of buying Meindl boots from Cabelas. I love Meindl boots, and mine are going on 8 years, and still look great. I wear them year around.

The warning is the boots are made by different people depending on what model you buy. The good ones are made in Germany by Meindl. If you look at the write up on Cabelas it will say\" Made in Germany\" for the good ones. My model is the Perfekt model, and they\'re made in Germany. I believe one or two others are too. The other models are made in Asia, and will say \"imported\" at the end of the write up. You don\'t want those. I\'ve read too many reviews of them falling apart in a year to even consider them. This whole deal is confusing, because the imported ones cost just as much as the ones made in Germany. This is typical of Cabelas.
