Bow Draw Workouts

Does anybody do anything special during shoulder workouts to increase stability and strength on drawing and holding your draw?

I have found pushups really help me. at least 2 sets of 20. then do a set of really slow motion pushups try 10.

It is a pretty good overall workout isn't it JimBow.  Sometimes you just need a reminder about simple exercises.  Thank you!

I have found that dumbell fly's or a butterfly machine exercise really helps increase my strength and stability when drawing a bow.  I combine this with basic arm exercises like curls to really get ready for the season.

There is probably nothing like just shooting as much as possible and at times holding at full draw for as long as you can during a shooting session. Also, I have a total gym and that is great for repetitions pulling from multiple angles to hit every part of the shoulder ;)

Lots of shooting. Also do fly's with dumbells. I have a strong elastic used for physical therapy that I hold in my bow hand and pull back just like I am pulling my bow back. Seems to help especially if you have ever had a shoulder injury.

I do pull starts with 90 lb dumbbells, and always use dumbbells when doing bench press or flies.  I do a lot of core work as well.
But by far the best thing for me is my shooting drills.  I have a routine where I hold at full draw for 5 minutes at 20 yards then release, then 4 minutes at 30 yards, 3 @ 40, 2 @ 50, and finally 1 at 60.  Once you get to the point where every shot in on the money, then drawing, holding for an extended period, and firing accurately when it counts seems like a piece of cake.

I will have to try this. Never really have worried about holding back for extended periods of time and yet I have had to a couple times over the years.

Holding for longer periods does seem like a good idea. Will have to start doing that also. Thanks for the tip.
