Brook Trout with a Rod and Reel

I am taking my son camping next weekend to an area I\'m considering hunting this fall. Planning on doing a little scouting and checking some game cameras. There is a decent creek right by where we are camping that I hear holds some brook trout. Any suggestions on what I could throw on a hook for my son? He\'s only four, so it will be with a rod and reel, no fly fishing. I figured maybe night crawlers or even some power bait?

Yep.
Small hook and pinch a crawler in half hook it on and toss it in!

If water is swift, use a split shot to get it down to the bottom, otherwise the crawler is heavy enough for most slow current
