Bugle tubes

I understand Travis is a sponsor here and I am not trying to ruffle any feathers but what is your favorite bugle tube? (Wapiti\'s, Elknut, Rocky Mtn, etc) What makes it \"The Best\"? I used the vacuum hose tube that Brad sent me years ago. I made one out of a wiffle ball bat last year, plasti-dipped it to add some rubber coating and it sounded decent. I have a hard time justifying the $50 for some of the tubes on the market. Are they worth it? I guess it depends on the style of hunting you do. I\'m still trying to figure out my \"style\" as I have yet to take an elk. I am going back to the basics this year and figured I\'d research \"The Best\" tube out there.

I do have Trav\'s (Wapiti River Outdoors) and I think it sounds great, but I also don\'t have anything to compare it to as it was my first one that I picked up when I started archery hunting last year.

Been real happy with buglin bulls tube saw recently about a mouth peice that resonated volume in a smaller tube and thought if I get a whim may try that I would have to look and see if it\'s any lighter than the extreme ruble now there again I don\'t know if there is a best each has pro and con I believe I also use a small bugle tube if I back pack in and it seems to get the job done so who knows the best is the one that calls elk in that day

Elknut\'s Lil Chuckler with the external reed. Can remove the external reed if you want to use a mouth diaphragm.

Wapiti\'s tube does sound good. But I wouldn\'t be caught dead trying to pack that monstrosity of a thing around in the thick timber. I really don\'t care if he is a sponcer here or not! He has his own icon or page here and hasn\'t bothered to make a post on it for close to eight months! Some sponcer, huh!

Glen Berry also has a monsterous long tube that looks like a pain to pack around. However, he also has a mini version for $17 bucks that Joel Turner won a world elk calling championship with. That gave me the idea to cut down an Elknut Chuckler to make it shorter. Sounds great! I wouldn\'t have done it if I would have had to pay his out landish price for it. He used to keep me supplied in them back when we were close friends. HA!

Rockie Jacobsen makes a good product that has been proven many times with multiple championships. But then again, when you have both Rockie and Corey to compete against, they are two of the best callers in the world and have proven it many times. Heck, those guys could sound good blowing through a soda straw.

I almost forgot to mention the Power Bugle by E.L.K. Inc. If you have a problem using a diaphragm call, this thing is pure dynamite and easy to learn,

So I guess the best advice I have to offer is use what works best for you. Nothing at all wrong with your wiffleball bat. It all has to do with how good you are at using it. And when you stop and think about it, most production tubes on the market originated from a WalMart plastic ball bat!

I like the idea of a shorter tube. I don\'t like things in my pack sticking up above my head because I forget about them and hit them going under brush.

I am proficient with a diaphragm call so really just need a tube. It\'s hard to shop around since they are $30-$50 each.

Then something like this may be what you are looking for.

What\'s the best bugle tube ? That\'s like saying what\'s the best reed or what\'s the best car ford or chevy............The honest answer is the bugle tube that makes you feel confident in your calling.

I see WW would not be caught dead in the bush with the Rump Shaker as it\'s to big for him to carry. So he\'s better off with a short vacuum hose !!There\'s no making him happy !! I personally gave him a Rump Shaker for free out of the goodness of my heart and he still bashes me !!! What ever !!

I personally have used many that I bought over the years and I prefer the bigger tubes as they have more deep bottom end. I do a lot of grunting and chuckling along with moaning and groans while calling in bulls. A vacuum hose just doesn\'t cut it for those sounds. I\'ve used a ball bat for a couple seasons and was happy with it except the hollow plastic sound. So then I designed the Rump Shaker. I put it to the test last season and called in elk every day of the season from Aug 25 till Sept 27th (My last day out). I was out every single day and called bulls in every day and on a few days called in 5-6 bulls in one day !!

So for me I\'ll be sticking to the Rump shaker as I designed it for exciting action packed elk calling. It weighs a whole 12.3 ounces !! Which is only 4 ounces more then a vacuum hose tube. The bulls really like the authentic sounds the Rump Shaker produces so to me that\'s the difference......technology that went into producing the Rump Shaker with the thicker plastic and silicone bands. Plus the silicone end cap and super comfortable tapered silicone mouth piece. The only bugle tube on the market that has many of these features. Also sewn in pockets on the camo cover for extra reeds !!

Now I\'m not saying a hose won\'t work anymore as it might but with everyone asking how do you call in all the call shy bulls........You can use 40 year old hose technology or you can use state of the art designs that Wapiti River Outdoors manufactures and are now putting out so you folks can be more successful !!

That\'s my take on bugle tubes....................oh and I am currently working on another bugle tube design for next year that will appease everyone !! Maybe even WW But I doubt it !!! This tube will be for the hard core packing in and on a mission guys !!

Cheers guys !!

Does anybody offer a sub 20 dollar tube that\'s worth a crap? I have a primos tube and external reed and it sounds good and called in a nice Bull this year, but I like the idea of the versatility that a mouth reed and tube provide. Just don\'t want to pay 35-45 bucks to play around with one.

NOTE TO WAPITI: I\'m not bashing you or your product at all. As a matter of fact, I think your tube has excellent tone and I love the mouth piece. Very comfortable! And as I watched the world champion calling contest, I felt that you did a great job using your Rump Shaker. As a matter of fact, I thought both you and Big Al Morris both got the shaft and should have made the final cut. But as I stated to you over a year ago, it is all about what the judges want to hear on a given day.

You have an excellent contest bugle. All I\'m saying is, something that is as long as the arrows I shoot is just too much for me to pack around in the heavy brush and downfall where I hunt.

Thanks for your honesty Bill. I appreciate your words on worlds as well. Next year I\'ll try again. Sooner or later the judges will like what they are hearing.......hopefully.

Stay tuned for what I\'m bringing out next year !!

Cheers

Trav

Good to have you on board! Nice job on the homemade tube as well :upthumb:

I went with the Rock Mtn Bully Bull Extreme. Seems I am always falling face first into Cabela\'s gift cards and I have a list of wants/needs and I was able to check a few items off my list.

I also added a couple of the \"The Closer\" calls and see they changed the latex! :mg: Why the heck do they change existing calls instead of calling them something new and leaving the originals alone?!?! They did it last year with the Mellow Yellow and they don\'t blow the same. I\'ll have to practice with it but for heck\'s sake, call it \"The Closer II\" or something so we know to look elsewhere for the originals. /rant

A big wELKome to Bowhunter374 ! I\'ll bet that tube will do the job. :thewave: :welcome:

You can cut bottom out of 2l bottle, use you hands, wiffle ball bat etc. IMHO bugle tubes are way over rated, and over priced. I have donated many tubes to the mountain over the years, and called in plenty of bulls just cupping my hands. At the end of the day it is psychological, much like camo, scents etc. So the best tube is whatever you feel comfortable using.
