I am gong to my first Wyoming Elk hunt in two weeks.  Opening day for my rifle tag is Oct 1st.  Should I be calling and expecting bugling during this time or more spot and stalk opportunities.  I've been on a few other Elk hunts but always early or late seasonso no calling before.  I've been though all the Elk 101 material and feel like I have a somewhat decent bugle with a diaphragm but might pick up a bite and blow to be safe.

I'll be in a unit about an hour east of Jackson Hole.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Everytime I hunt elk in October, even early October I leave the bugle tube at home...

cow call comes with me eveninto November (success has been had with a cow call during CO's 4th rifle) but the bugle only sees daylight in Sept.

Great advice.  And definitely aligns with what other people have said.  I head out on Saturday for the drive down.  Wish me luck!

Great question, I was wondering the exact same thing. I will be bringing the diaphragm for sure then!
