build a bow

has anybody built their own bow. just curious. i really wanna try it but i dont think i want some of the kits out there. i think i wanna cut the tree etc. just not sure how to go about it.

I built a couple \'long\' bows.
I found a newer pallet [with ash wood]
And took it apart, found the straightest piece and started sanding, made my own string out of some imitation sinew, tillering, etc etc.
It shot OK. it was about 28lbs.... that was until it broke.
It was fun tho

Scott, go onto bowsite and find a post from standswittaknife(danny stotler). Great guy and he got into making bows a few years back and doing a really good job. He lives in Salida and I know wouldn\'t mind answering some questions.

thanks guys, once i get settled in somewhere i may start the process. i would love to make a bow to deer hunt with. think it would be cool to hunt wiht something you made.

I have thought of doing the same thing. I seem to be too busy to get started. Maybe some day I will give it a try.

I\'ve been building my own bows since 2010. I build glass laminated bows not the selfbow your looking to make though. Another great place to check out would be tradgang.com under the bowyers bench section. There are tons of guys on there that build selfbows that could help you every step of the way...actually I\'m going to start on my longbow for this season tonight. Pm me if you have any questions I could get ya headed in the right direction....
