New to western hunting ,  Just wanted to know what camo pattern is preferred.  I like nat gear would that work in the south central Colorado area?

It doesn't matter a bit. As long as your outline is broken up.

For decades I hunted in red and black plaid. It worked just as good as any camo pattern. Camo came out in the military to fool the human eye. It won't make you invisible to game.

Movement is what gets you busted.

I've been using Cabellas Outfitter pattern in micro fleece for 15 yrs. Love it.
I also use wool in winter, plaid too.
Dark pattens in light background can get you busted, same with snow look in dark woods.
Movement is what gets you spotted.

camo patterns dont matter as much as they hype them up to be get good gear and use the pattern they come in good gear is what matters most

Gotta agree with the others - movement is yourenemy.

Although I own more camo than a man should, I believe camo is the fourth thing to consider. Movement is first, smell is second, performance of your clothing is third with camo after that. I'd rather have some random camo or none at all and be in good clothing that will both hold up and breath, wick moisture, stretch, etc than anything else.

I do believe that the science behind the Optifade Open Country has merit and I regularly hunt in Sitka Optifade for that reason as well as the performance aspect of the materials.

All that said and for what it's worth, I've had close encounters under 15 yards with elk while in Realtree Max 1, Mothwing Mountain Mimicry, Sitka Optifade Open Country, Kuiu Vias, and Mossy Oak Treestand.  I don't believe any of those would have been possible had the wind not been in my favor or had I been moving.

Good luck on your hunt in CO with whatever camo you go with!

I have to say I agree with what has been said here.  It is about quality of gear and just make sure it breaks up your pattern.  Then use the winds, and environment to your advantage.
