Today is my anniversary and the wife and I wanted to do something different and fun.
So we decided to have our own chopped championship.

For those of you not familiar, chopped is a TV show on food network. 4 chefs go head to head in a cooking contest.
The show gives each chef a basic full of ingredients and then the chefs have to cook something using everything in the basic.....

So the wife and I decided to do our own modified version of chopped.
We went to the grocery store, picked 4 ingredients for each other, then had 10 extra minutes to buy whatever see we needed for the meal.

My challenge was to cook lunch and my wife\'s was to cook dinner...

Pictures to follow....

So the first pictures are the baskets we got for each other.

The basket I got for my wife contained: guacamole, a mixture of peppers and onions, garlic and cheese bread toasties, and roasted garlic tender beef fillets.

The basket my wife got for me was:
Fresh pico, a lemon, turkey brats, and onion rolls......

Whose sounds more difficult?

So I was up first.....

I decided to make a fun meal and use the brats in two different ways, an appetizer and a meal.
I cut the casings off of 2 and cut them in slim strips, then flattened it.
The other few I added to some 80/20 beef and made burgers.

The flattened stripes I decided to use on my own version of a brucsetta. I decided I could use the pico on this too.
I took the pico and diced it up super fine and added some fire roasted tomatoes. I then mushed it all together and put it into the freezer to cool it down.
I then cooked up the flattened strips and decided it needed some flavor....so..... bacon came out. I figured I could use it in the burgers too....

Next I took some fresh french bread and toasted it.
I put a cream cheese base on one and a homemade salsa spread on the other.

On the cream cheese side I put brat strips and bacon and on the salsa side I just added bacon...

Apps are served....

Next we have the main course for lunch....

turkey brat/beef burgers.

As I mentioned I mixed the brats and beef together. I also smushed some fresh lemon in there too. (should have mentioned I used the lemon in the salsa too)

I also know my wife loves cheese, so I decided to make the burgers infused in the burger....
So I cut up some small pieces of colby jack and made it work!

I wanted to grill it all, but I didn\'t want the cheese to burn, so I gave it a flash burn on the grill and then finished them in the oven.

I took the onion rolls, put some of the salsa on the base and then WE ATE....

Pics coming....

IT WAS ALL AMAZING

It is settled you are the official camp cook.

I will do the dishes after you fill my belly with great tasting vittles.
