Chuckles

In my bear report I mentioned an elk making some chuckles that led me to sneak up on him. In the past i\'ve only used any kind of sound coming from a bull to locate him. Then stay quiet as I snuck up. So, I haven\'t studied what the bull is actually saying, but I know you guys have. I\'m curious what he was saying.

So, it was dead quiet when i first heard it. Just 4-5 chuckles, or are they grunts? It\'s what you hear at the end of a long bugle, but in this case they were all by themselves. No sound before, or after the chuckles. As I was stalking him he did it one more time.

What was he saying, and to who?

I have yet to hear it in person but I believe its possible to paint two different pictures with it. Possibly more....

First one would be a bull being harassed and calling his cows in close to him and moving them off.

Second one would be a bull advertising himself to an area. Possibly smells elk near by and wanting them to come to him and it could be any elk for that matter. Cow or Bull

From what I understand its always a bull looking for other elk and those elk to come to him. The reason I mentioned different scenarios is because it could dictate how you would want to sneak in on a single elk or a herd of elk.

This was definitely a bull by himself. I saw no sign of any other elk in the area.

I\'ve heard this all my life hunting, but never thought about what it meant. You guys got me thinking about it.

Frustration.

as Meatloaf would say..... \"all dressed up and no place to go!\" :x

I haven\'t a clue what this bull was saying. Just trying to provide comic relief.

He did sort of sound frustrated. Even less so with me stalking him.

He was thinking...............Bad enough there\'s no babes around, but I got this old clown on my ass too.

Big difference between what and how it is being said
Frustration? I would agree that it is a lonely bull. Still Hunter had known this was a lone bull making it even easier to visualize the situation.
