What is the best tactic during rifle season when you have found their bedding area, you can smell them, but have not spooked them yet? I don't want to push them out but do not see them yet.
I think Jack Atcheson said it best: "If you don't know what to do when your in elk, either stay where your at or go high". I don't rifle hunt elk much anymore, so I'd naturally lean toward calling in that situation.
