CO Elk DIY Unit 15

Me and a friend going to Colorado and doing a DIY elk hunt archery in unit 15 I would like get as much information as I could before we leave .we are planning on starting the hunt the first week in September . Does anyone have any experience in this area ? Or when the best time would be to get there ?.

Unfortunately I have never hunted Unit 15 before, so can\'t help you out there.

If you can, tell us a little more about your hunt. Have you ever been there before? Are you planning on doing any scouting beforehand? How long do you plan on hunting for? Have you elk hunted before?

I know 15 has some good elk hunting, and if you look at the Atlas, it will show you summer - winter migration/public private and Motor vehicle use map.

A co-worker hunted near Toponas and got into elk.

Its a popular unit tho

The areas near Yampa are good but there are several outfitters in the area. It is a good unit with some good OTC bulls. My friend killed a gross 300 bull on the third day of our hunt.
