I guess I somehow missed this when looking at the new five year structure, but I got a bit of a slap in the face looking at season dates for next year. For the next five years, the season opens on Sept 2, which this year is a Wednesday. The next weekend is Labor Day Weekend, which should be busy. Muzzleloader starts the following weekend and goes through the third weekend, then there are ten days to hunt from there until the close of the season. Kind of a mess compared to how it currently sits, where you always had the second weekend to hunt in between Labor Day and Muzzleloader. And it's like that for the next five years, with Labor Day always falling that first weekend.

We have hunted the last week over the last two years and were planning on trying to hunt before Muzzleloader season this year, but I'm not sure I want to base it around Labor Day weekend either. Back to the drawing board I guess. At least I have time!

The 3rd Rifle season lost 2 days with the new format too

Yeah, I saw that originally. And I knew there were some date changes for archery with the Sept 2 start date, etc, but I just never put it all together that it was going to be Labor Day weekend and then Muzzleloaders.

For those that have hunted Labor Day weekend before, how is it? Are the woods loaded with hunters?
