All Licenses go on sale Tuesday August 5th - 9am.
OTC - Leftover - and OTC with Caps

To avoid any issues buying at a license agent on your way to the mountain, some guys call the CPW and have the license sent to them prior to going. I also know that some Walmarts have quit selling licenses.
So be sure you get your tag

For Colorado residents:

If you have renewed your Drivers License in the past 6 months, you will also need proof of residency to purchase a license

See Page 14 - #2 of the Regs

Thanks for the tip Brad. I usually pick mine up on the way out. I might just have to order mine before hand and save the worry trying to find one when I get there. I am going to a new area and not sure who sells them there. I will also enter Colorado from a different direction than from the past.

Seriously? My driver\'s license expires next year and I have been a resident since 1991. That is weird.

Thanks for the heads up.

What a fiasco that turned out to be. My Son & I both finally got black powder bear tags at around 12:30. Never did get anything other than error message when trying for archery tags. Rumor has it the same people who put the Obamacare plan into effect did the Colorado parks & wildlife draw. Makes me want to do a drive by :mg: kidding....

Yeah I heard the CPW suspended all sales until they fixed the issues...
Who knows when that will be.
Glad I didnt need any leftovers

yea, i had my deer tag that ive waited on for 43 yrs in the cart paying for it an a error message came up. kicked me off. by the time i got back on they were all gone. to say im less than happy would be a understatement

My buddy and I turned in our archery ES tags and obtained leftover rifle bull tags. We did this since we will be practicing a little more with our rifles since we have an early rifle buck tag. Will be the first year ever hunting the first rifle season, we usually try for a draw unit or Pref Point and then get an ES archery tag. Decided to try something different this year, especially since we are expecting to be more proficient with our rifles this year. We also obtained bear tags to go with those rifle elk tags. Should be a good hunt. I\'m still going to hunt archery, as I picked up an antlerless elk list B tag today as well.

The CPW site was a dissaster today, but glad we were still happy that some of those tags were still available in the end.

I just went online and purchased my OTC w/ Caps Archery Bear tag without any issues
I feel for you guys that got the shaft

Sorry to hear about the problems. As a software developer, I always push management to do load testing before software goes into production. Sounds like they never thought they would have hug increase in load over last year\'s numbers for the same day.

Here is their press release:
DENVER ? Colorado Parks and Wildlife suspended sales of leftover limited licenses and over-the-counter with caps licenses for nearly three hours on August 5. An unprecedented volume of hunters purchasing various tags caused stress on the system and forced CPW officials to halt sales statewide. As sales resumed at noon, a record number of licenses were sold by 2 p.m. and continue to grow with time.

While the direct cause is still under investigation, Matt Robbins, spokesperson for Colorado Parks and Wildlife, said ?We recognize the inconvenience of today and appreciate everyone?s patience while the licensing system was restored.?

As of 5 p.m. last year on leftover day, CPW had sold 12,629 licenses statewide. This year, as of 4:30 p.m., statewide sales ballooned to 14,887. Even with record first day sales, more than 28,000 leftover licenses are still available.

The current Total Licensing System in more than ten years old and efforts are underway to build a more robust licensing system to handle the growing demand.

This fiasco doesnt look good for the CPW. Especially after the botched deer draw earlier this year.
They really took some heat yesterday and rightly so.

There is some chatter on some sites that they should do each species separate - drawing and leftover license sales.

If you feel that this requires a comment or a question to them, you can do that here

ok i might be wrong, or just bitter over the deer tag i had in my cart before it said error in system an kicked me off, but when they changed the rules this year an put everything on sale the same day what did they expect. of course people flooded the system trying to get there tags. if you live out of state an trying to get a tag mailed to you when season opens in 25 days some will get on asap. if they had kept it with leftovers one time an otc another it wouldnt have had that extra 2000 tags sold at one time. an why so late in the year. antelope season starts in what, 10 days, i havnt looked at the dates this year but woulda been last year, how do you sale tags with 10 days til season. just kinda seems like the blind leading the blind over there.

IMHO, everyone is justified in being angry about this.

I do agree that the OTC tags should be separated from the leftover tags first day of sale. As Scott pointed out, that is how it used to be.

It sounds like CPW needs to upgrade their servers and software versions. 10 year old stuff is way out of date in the computer world. These upgrades cost loads of money. They are not cheap. In other words, we may all see our licenses cost more next year to help pay for it.
