I've been doing my regular summer scouting this year for elk in Colorado. I'm from Idaho, but just recently got out o the army and have decided to make Colorado my home for good. I can't find an area that doesn't have roads hiking trails jeep trails etc. I'm looking for a good place in an OTC unit I can hike in miles and not run I to anything like that. I hike for about 7 miles to the top of a mountain in which my gps said there were no roads within miles. As soon as I got to the top there was a jeep on a jeep trail bahain up the mountain right through the spot I had scouted. So the. I decided to walk over the mountain next to it in which I ran right into a heavily used hiking/mountain bike trail. So please I'm not asking for someone to tell me where the elk are I can find my own elk what I'm having trouble with is finding decent amounts of wilderness I can hike into and be as remote as it gets. Thanks

I'm looking for the same thing man!! You're not really going to be able to away from the hikers and mtn bikers, everyone here is so outdoorsy and there are trails where you wouldn't think. Most times the hikers don't even see the elk, or any game for that matter. Just one of the things you gotta deal with here. Good luck man

I would ssuspect concentrating on large Wilderness areas..They usually have a small town or a place to live not far away.

As NCL indicated, find the nearest wilderness area....You take the road, atv and 4x4 ability away from folks and its amazing the reduction in crowd you'll see.
