Seems like CO and being difficult to understand is a common denominator and I have a question for you season vets.
It\'s regarding both drawing a tag AND tag sell back.

To my understanding, the ONLY way you\'re gonna get a PP is if it\'s your number one choice, it cannot be in any other position (I.E 2-4 choice)
So if I put in for a PP first and also drew a 2-4th choice, and then sold one of those tags back, then I am getting a PP.

I was also told that if I just put in for any tags, 1-4, drew and then sold it back then I\'d also get a preference point?
I don\'t think it\'s correct because that would defeat the whole purpose of putting a PP in your application.

Thoughts?
Which is correct?

Also, do you draw a PP without having it as a choice if you don\'t draw any tags? And...how does having a PP as your #1 affect 2-4 that you\'re trying to draw?

My thoughts are unless they changed it using scenario #1 and you sold back the tag you drew you wouldn\'t get the PP... I was always was under the understanding that if you drew a tag no matter which choice you drew and then sold that tag back you would have nothing to show for it except your money back...

You used to gain a PP by just applying for it and paying a certain fee for the PP... Like I said don\'t know that is still available or not... :? :?

Sell back isn\'t my question really. The new rules for sale back are pretty simple...if you have any banked PPs and draw a tag that you can\'t use, you have 2 choices. The first is sell back the tag and only pay 15$ in processing. That gets you a refund but you lose any PPs you had. The second is to get refunded your PPs but you get no money back. That\'s how I understand the sell back with the new rules.

Here is how I understand it:

1- you will get a PP if you put the P-999-99-P code on the first choice

2- you will get a PP on your first choice IF you dont draw the first choice [but draw any of the 2-4 choice]

3- you have a choice if you want to get a refund - get your tag fee back OR get that year\'s point back. Not both. [On the first choice only]

Basicallly the 2nd-4th choices do not impact your PPs at all

Yes, this is correct. BUT, if you turn a tag in that you used preference points to draw, you can get those points back but you won\'t get an additional point for this year. For example, you draw a tag using 4 preference points, but find out you cannot make the trip. You can turn in that tag and get your 4 points back, but you won\'t get an additional point for this year...you will still have 4 points.

As Brad said, the only choice that affects preference points is the first choice. If you don\'t draw that tag, you get a point. If you want to guarantee a point, you use the preference point code as your first choice.
