I was wondering if some people could touch on rules regarding CO hunting land and camping.
During your hunt, can you camp legally anywhere within the unit as long as its public land?
Are there designated areas?
Do they have laws regarding bivy camping or can you campout anywhere?
Any restrictions on campers?

Thank you, all!

you can camp on the national forest lands of course. but, state forest and trust lands are no camping areas even though they are public. im sure the other co guys can give you more info.

Yes, like Scott said you can basically camp anywhere you want on national forest or blm land. State lands all have their own rules...some allow camping, some don\'t. There are certain areas in Colorado where you have to utilize a camp ground or natural camping spot, but those are few and far between and are mainly focused in areas right along the front range or around popular areas, like lakes.

One thing to add: even though you can camp anywhere, you cannot just drive to those areas. You can pull off the main road to camp, but you can\'t go blazing a trail hundreds or yards off a road or take an atv way back in.

Fair enough!
Im just trying to figure out contingency plans.

I have a trailer, outfitters wall tent, and quick throw tents.
As long as I can use all of them out there, then that is great!

Not sure about national forest but blm lands you can only camp in one spot for 14 days and you have to move.

Its called dispersed camping.

You can pull off most anywhere more than 100ft off a designated traveled roadway.

These roads are listed on the NF website

<!-- m --><a class=\"postlink\" href=\"http://www.cocommunity.net/program/dispersed-camping.html\" onclick=\"window.open(this.href);return false;\">http://www.cocommunity.net/program/disp ... mping.html</a><!-- m -->

Dispersed camping is permitted in Routt National Forest; all areas are open to camping unless posted otherwise. No day use or camping fees apply to dispersed camping sites.
The following rules apply:
Camp must be set up more than 100 feet from any stream, lake, river or trail.
Vehicles may not be driven off road in white arrow road areas with travel restrictions.
Use existing fire grates or rings. If none exist, use the fire pit method and replace sod after the fire has been completely extinguished.
Protect trees from nails and scars from axes, knives and hatchets. Use only dead trees for firewood.
Bury human waste at least 6 inches deep and more than 100 feet from any water.
Avoid leveling or digging trenches around tents.
Wash at least 100 feet away from any water sources.
Take trash bags to carry out all refuse. Do not leave trash in fire rings. Do not bury trash.
Leave sites in better condition than they were when you arrived.

If I remember correctly, you posted a picture before and it was just all trucks pulled off the road right where you camp?
Do you guys set up a fairly large camp?

Good rule of thumb. I\'ve found that people who do this are generally just good people.

Like Brad said, you can camp just about anywhere (unless otherwise posted)!

When we camped in Colorado it was within sight of a OPEN forest service road... We mainly use our 32\' 5th wheel and went in as far as we could go with it... Most of the palaces were preexisting camp site and were what some folk consider primitive camp sites since there is no fee charged... The 14 day limit applies to anywhere you camp in national forest... I doubt you would have a problem with a 14 day limit since you would be on the move before then anyway... The local CPW office in the area you plan to hunt should have open travel road maps for that area... Some roads that are open to travel are not good for 32\' 5th wheel camper so it good to see what they are like before you pull up with your camper... My wife and I spent 2 summer vacations driving open forest service roads in the area I was going to hunt... You would be surprised at what you find... ;) ;) :D :D

Our camp has been pretty big some years and a quite a few people camp other places and drive and park where we camp.

We have a fifth wheel my uncle brings and I tent it. Some guys we know have three campers all so. Had a few other before to.

Our camp. Don\'t remember if this was last year or the year before but it\'s pretty much the same every year.
