Cooler Test - 4 Coolers go head to head

Good deal!
I had picked up two of the cabelas coolers last year when they had a sale. They will have their first trip here in 45 days!

From the research I\'ve done on coolers, the Orca seems to lead the pack. I decided to go with a small freeze chest and generator. I can use the generator when I lose power in my house and use the chest year around. Just couldn\'t justify paying that much for a cooler that would be sitting on the shelf most of the year.

Yeah, the Yeti didn\'t hold up too well so got me thinking about my RTIC. And yes, I remember saying I was going to do my own ice test and still may since in Oklahoma now and will be a great test!

Other than cost, I think the bigger \'issue\' with the roto molded coolers are the weight. Mines a 65 qt and weighs 36.5 lbs empty. After I filled it up, I almost couldn\'t get it lifted into the back of my pickup! Okay, not working out as much as I should but that\'s another thread.

Bum, there\'s definitely less expensive ways to keep food/beverages cold and I guess some goes towards convenience as I wouldn\'t want to drag a freezer and generator everytime I go camping.

I only camp when I elk hunt. Summer is definitely not my favorite season of the year. I can see if you camp multiple times a year, then for sure a cooler would be better.

i wonder about the ozark trail coolers walmart has now. an before anyone laughs, i saw a head to head against the top glasses that keep water for like 4 hours, and ozark trail won.

I have the big Ozark Trail mug and it is very comparable to the Yeti at retaining ice. Haven\'t done a side-by-side, but I\'ll say it\'s impressive. No clue if it\'s true or not, but I have heard the Ozark Trail products are made at the same facility as Yeti. Doesn\'t say much when looking at the video here, so take it for what it\'s worth!

I was in a local store that sells Yeti merchandise. They had fishing rod holders that fit on the side of your Yeti cooler for $39.95.

So, I went home and found some scrap PVC and made my own for FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeti is like most of the hyped up brand names in outdoor gear. :haha:

My oldest son has a couple of Yeti\'s that he won as door prizes at the local DU banquets and some Yeti cups thingies... We don\'t use the Yeti for deer but they use them for fish... We use the regular old Wally World coolers for deer and use 1 gal, 1/2 gal milk jugs and 1 liter bottles about 3/4 full of water that we freeze our selves for both... The old coolers keep the deer cold for a week before we cut and package them... During cooler weather it doesn\'t make much difference in the amount of ice used and I don\'t know about hot weather..

My youngest daughter in law says the Ozark Trail cup are just as good if not better than the Yeti... I\'ve not tried either...
