Okay, gotta vent just a little as this is a pet peeve of mine. I\'m emailing/talking to contractors about ripping out our deck and replacing with stamped concrete. I sent this company an online request and here\'s his reply. I highlighted the part that irritates me in addition to the nuances of missing commas. Our vs Are, Your vs You\'re - something I learned in basic English.

I\'m returning your email you sent about replacing your deck with 500 sq ft of are beautiful stamped concrete. Well you have picked the right company for your job, we pride ourselves in producing the best, and most beautiful stamped concrete in Colorado. I could give you a rough estimate over email but I would really like to set up a day and time I could come to your home and give you a solid number for your project? Let me know if your available on Monday? Thanks a lot Russ for your time I look forward to talking to you soon. And thank you for considering XYZ for your upcoming project.

I do not consider myself anywhere near perfect at spelling or grammar. Usually, I need to write and rewrite, to get it down the way I want it to read. This is especially true if I am doing a magazine article, or something significant, but your company need to go back to 8th grade English. That reminds me I promised an article to Oregon Bowhunter, so I better get to it. in case you were wondering, Bowhunter is spelled as one word for that organization.

Welcome to the \'quick reply\' with the use of mobile devices.

Basic gramar errars drive me nuts ...

Heck I spells kinda bad sometimes. I hopes it doesnt bother you Russ.

I would think that a company or business would want to look as professional as possible. I would like to see some of his work first. If he does good work and is honest I don\'t care how he spells or how many teeth he has.

i\'m awful.

important emails (for work) i type them in Word so i can find/filter some of the more heinous errors. then i copy and paste the document into my emails.

forums? all bets are off. iphone responses? oh, they can be beauties!!

that Contractor\'s email response is very awkward anyways. i read an article that emails are not letters and shouldn\'t be so formal. i subscribe to this idea wholeheartedly.

and stamped concrete is fantastic. are you coloring the mix?

Don\'t get me wrong here guys/gals - I\'m not judging the individual for starting a sentence with a preposition but rather the impression his communication may have on a potential customer. I use Word all the time to spell check but it will miss some misuse of homonyms. If he\'s a hunter, I\'ll even cut him some more slack!

This all goes back to my 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Woods. \"Mrs. Woods, can I go to the bathroom?\" \"I don\'t know Russ, can you?\" ????? :?: \"Mrs. Woods, can I go to the bathroom...PLEASE?\" \"If you mean, MAY I go to the bathroom, yes you may!\"

Yes, going with colored mix in the concrete. Surprised how much it costs to build or rebuild a wood deck.

Ouch.

That payout is gonna sting. Colored and stamped is beautiful.

Someday for me. Someday.

Russ, I\'m with you. If they can\'t be professional enough to type a decent response, how can you expect them to be professional on the job and also do a good job.

As a side note, if you need a referral for stamped concrete I can send you one. Just had a 600 square foot patio put in, looks great!

For the most part I can agree with this but they are not paid to be grammatically correct, they are getting paid to know how to stamp concrete. The people I hired to do ours had so many spelling errors on their flyer it was ridiculous, but they came with great references and they did a damn good job. ;)

Elky, colored/stamped concrete patio is MUCH cheaper than a redwood deck and MUCH MUCH cheaper than a Trex deck! $16,500 and $24,000 respectively for about 550 sq ft whereas concrete is around $7000.

Lark, I fully understand where you\'re coming from and don\'t have that same expectation for the guys doing the actual work(nor do I care if they speak English) but since I\'m in a professional position then I expect more from the \'higher ups\'.

Cohunter14, I\'d take the referral - much prefer that to internet reviews from people I don\'t know.
