Could you shoot the bedded cow elk in the foreground?

This is a trick question. I am being bad today and wanted to test uploading pictures.

Absolutely not! To risky  the bullet might pass thru her, ricochet off the side walk, kill the magpie that is sitting on the back of the second elk behind her, go thru the window and hit the porcelain thrown, shatter it, and leave the owner that was sitting on it in one heck of a mess. Nope, I ain\'t taking that big of a chance! :downthumb:

Picture upload test: :upthumb:
Take the shot test....only with a camera.
Ma\'am , that\'s a nice picture!

well if it was my first elk, an the pack out would be fairly easy, lol. just kidding. no, but when she stands up an clears the cow behind her an im shootin archery shes in trouble

Nobody is concerned about shooting next to a house? I\'m talking about legally.

On a personal note. I couldn\'t shoot an animal laying down, but that\'s just my own restriction. I know those who do.

Still hunter, those guys were being bad like me. They knew you can\'t shoot that cow elk because of the location.

Location: A Church in Estes Park, Colorado; the weekend after the end of CO archery season. A 20 head herd was hanging out with the herd bull attacking cars that got to close. It is a blast to watch them up there the 2 weekends following archery season.

A few minutes before the picture was taken, that cow in the foreground was standing and almost head butted a lady in the ass. The lady practically tried to shove her camera in that cow\'s face and the cow took offense.

The second cow did finally get rid of the bird.

I took my picture at a more comfortable 5 yard distance and never got head butted.

I also would not shoot an elk laying down. My archery club has a bedded bull elk 3D target that I can practice on, however, I would never take the shot.

Okay, so I couldn\'t shoot her, but I would give her a lecture about not pressing her luck too far. If she stops by my house in hunting season and lays there like that, I would have to really think about it. I would be asking myself if I really wanted a mile plus uphill pack out of some canyon or if I could just be satisfied filling the freezer. It is all hypothetical as I have never had elk in my yard. Still she looks interesting.

Walked right in on a cow bedded like that, except quartering away more, about 3 years ago...10 yds. Plenty of time to plug her, and I let her go.

I very much regretted not shooting her at the end of my 10 day hunt (I walked in on her on day 3).

Not next to a house. I would as soon as she stood and was clear of the other elk in the wild. I once saw a whitetail bed down 150yds from my tree stand. I had the wind in my favor and decided to sneak in on him. I got to 20yds and shot at him bedded. He jumped up took a few steps then stopped. That is when the second arrow deflated his lungs. My first was only in his leg and not fatal. The target is small on a dee bedded and faceing away from you. I wouldn\'t try that shot again.
