Coyotes...

Hahahaha so true!!! I had to force myself not to pull the trigger on one two years ago while elk hunting.

A long long time ago, my hunting buddy & I crawled up on a herd of 70 elk in the dark on a hay field. When it got light enough to see, there was a single spike in the herd & as luck would have it, a 4 point restriction in that unit. I had glassed every single elk looking for a legal bull when a lone coyote trotted into view. I kicked the safety off & dusted him & watched the herd of elk blow out & over the hill. My buddy came scrambling over wanting to know where the bull was. Playing along, I said he was laying in the irrigation ditch & I dropped him in his tracks. HE WENT BALLISTIC! We walked out to the ditch & the look on his face when he saw that dead coyote made the hunt! I sold that beautiful pelt for $95 later that year. It\'s just about always coyote season for me.

This kinda like when we see a hog while deer hunting it changes to a hog hunt.... But yep when we see a coyote the hunt switches gears swiftly...

Stuck me one just Friday evening! :upthumb:

The pigs gave me the slip...but that was a nice bonus!

I find coyotes hard to shoot with an arrow. Jeff, were you in a tree stand? Even there I can easily get busted.

Yep...3 of them under my tree milling about. Made a kabob out of the nearest one. :upthumb:

He heard me draw, and stopped about 20 yds broadside looking my way...perfect opportunity.

Funny thing, when he bugged out with my arrow in him along with the other two...one of them came back a few minutes later, and smelled the ground where my arrow hit him (blood on the ground). I left him alone because I thought I\'d created enough commotion for one evening .
