someone teach me about coyotes. i have called a few times, but here in mo either they dont respond well or you can see them because of the terrain. so, when is the best time of year, what calls do you start with, etc. coyote 101

Coyotes are coyotes, no matter where or what.
They are opportunists.
You have be opportunity for them.

Wind and visibility is key. Dont skyline yourself and move into position with a cross wind as they too will come in downwind.
I like to sit on the edge of trees with a field in front of me. Other times I sneak down ravines and pop over and set up and call.

I use both ecaller and a hand call, depending on the terrain. Start softly as you just dont know how close they can be.

Call non-stop for a minute or so and wait a min. Call again a bit louder, give lots of emotion in the distress call.

Wait call wait call wait.
Sometimes they come in so fast and other times they sneak in.

If you go to YouTube, search for Randy Anderson coyote calling.
Some good entertaining and info

Fun stuff when it comes together!

i havent hunting coyote for years. my brother and i had a 22.250 that was so accurate and many many coyote died to that gun. i quit because it got kinda easy. we used a burnam bro mouth call, and an electronic caller from the same company. i bet my brother still has it. get this..it had a TAPE PLAYER!! yup. you hit play on a tape and for a few seconds you could hear the hiss of the blank section of the tape. haha.

now? man, i bet that foxpro system would dupe the dogs in El Paso easy..wireless, digital..whoa..

if you want easier dogs, i seem to remember to chase them in Feb..late winter was when the dogs were the youngest and therefore, untrained to the fake call. go for the dumb younger dogs and when they still had great fur.

full camo, dont MOVE!..scan with your eyes, play the wind and dont skyline yourself. we would have one of us with a shotgun the other with the 22-250. good times.

yep, i was looking for dumb dogs, but looks like i may be traveling to ky for 3 mos of work, so looks like winter mos are out.

AZ would be good for elk and mule deer VA for whitetail and I am sure ducks?

I am planning a few trips to hog and coyote hunt where I WT hunt in OK.
They are overrun, but I have a few things that can mitigate the population out there.

Can you use rifles for those animals or is it still bow only?

Rifle!!!!!!!!

As soon as the deer season ends on Jan 15th I am able to rifle hunt hogs and yotes until October 1st. With exception to a small turkey season where I can use shotty then.

Just shot 2 today while muzzleloader hunting whitetails. Watch the wind and keep still. If they are close, you can stop them by making a mouse squeak by sucking on the back of your hand. It will stop them stone cold, you just better be ready to shoot.

Never killed one before I met cnelk, he took me out and called one in on our first set....i still remember \"wait....wait....wait...wait..\" I had tried for years with out getting one in to the call, theres alot of things that have to go right. Wind, movement and calling. Don\'t over call and I think guys mess around too long trying to find a spot, when we hunt its go in, pick a spot and get to it. Went up last weekend and got one in on the first set:

Dont leave them lay, hides are beautiful and you can send to Moyle Mink and get them tanned for $23.00

You never know what else may come to the call as well:
