Does anyone here have a custom knife?

I just use a buck knife, but I am thinking about ordering a custom knife for hunting and a custom butcher set.
My goal is to find enough sheds this year to trade a knife maker for what I want or find enough to sell them and pay for what I want cash.

Id just love to see what everyone else has or may recommend for a knife.

Make your own. It isn\'t that hard. Here is mine. You can\'t see it in this picture but I placed an elk ivory in the end of the pommel. I\'ve made a bunch of them. Buglemaster also makes a few.

Did Russ show you the one I made for him?

Both of those knives turned out great Bill! :upthumb:
I\'ll have to start researching on how to build custom ones. It could turn into a little side hobby.

I\'m a knife addict. My wife hates that , and keeps me at bay. Thank goodness.

I have one custom for myself. I just want two more.

I\'m usually not a fan of antler handles. But they are growing on me. If I were to buy one. If get one from this guy. Rwfred on some knife forum

I\'ve never seen him trade bone for steel tho.

You know I\'m jumping in on this one WW! Still looking for a custom leather sheath that\'s worthy!

I plan on doing a few shed hunting trips more in hopes of getting some antlers I can screw up on before going all in when making my own. But, I\'d get to buy a Dremel!

Seems a little plain for such a beautiful knife Bill! I\'m going to Mountain Man in Manitou springs this weekend to look so let me see what I find. I\'ll be going in the field with it this year so definitely will have some kind of sheath instead of the cardboard that the blade came shipped in!

Beautiful knives guys. I think it is pretty cool how we are all individuals and what makes one tick doesn\'t the other. I use one of those Outdoor Edge butchering kits to butcher my whitetails. I leave it at home and break it out once get a deer in the skinning tree. They are pretty good knives. Not great knives but with the sharpener that is included I can keep them in good shape to handle a whitetail quickly. I would use the same kit on elk once I get it home if I ever kill one. :D For field care, I use whatever on deer as I only need to get the guts out of them. Normally it is a 30 year old buck pathfinder (for the poop chute) that my high school girlfriend bought me and a wyoming knife for gutting. I pack a sling blaze and a multitool in my elk kill kit FWIW.

You figure they would! Bone isn\'t cheap to get for handles, so if I game someone enough $1000 worth of antler for the rate they pay and I asked for like a $300-500 knife.... doesn\'t seem TOO crazy, does it?

Maybe I am just living on hops and dreams.
I will collect a bunch this year.

I can try to make my own knife and buy one too. See which I like more :dance2:

Careful Dan. Living on hops caused my gout to flare up!

Now I live on rye or something from an aged barrel!

i tried once. with the Adventure Sworn guys. they have a crazy wait list, and they sent out a request for some Elk Antler. i was stoked..i had a bunch of sheds. he had me saw a chunk off. from a photo he picked the straightest section. my antler he rejected because it had to much \"pith\" or marrow.

i didnt even want a free knife, i just wanted to be bumped up the waitlist. custom guys are kinda picky. these two guys made handle out of Giraffe bone. i didnt know where he got it. or which bone it was.

FTR, cutting up antler with a sawzall sucks!!

When using elk antler for knife handles, spike antlers are probably the best. They are usually the best diameter and actually have a stronger core with less pith. They do however have less character.
